Baseball Drops Game One of Weekend Series 13-9

Sterling, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team took on the Sterling Warriors to open KCAC play, resulting in a 13-9 loss. The Spires are now 5-8 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.

Saint Mary had built an early lead over the first three innings, Noah Para made it a 4-0 ball game after reaching via an error that allowed Brenden Roop and Bryce Turner. Starter Yanthony Navaro held the Warriors at bay, giving up just two runs in three and a thirds inning pitched. Sterling scored four runs in the fourth, three coming from an RBI single with the bases loaded. After giving up three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Spires began to chip away at the five-run Warrior lead in the top half of the sixth.

A two-RBI single from Turner and an RBI double from Roop brought Saint Mary within two runs. With runners in scoring position and no outs, Para hit a ball to the right side of the field to drive in Turner from third. Rooop scored the last run of the inning on a wild pitch to tie the game up at nine runs a piece. However, Saint Mary was not able to hold the Warriors in the sixth or the seventh and fell by a score of 13-9.
