Viera, Fla.- The University of Saint Mary Softball team finished day three at the USSSA Space Coast Tournament against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils, resulting in a 3-1 win. The Spires are now 12-7 overall.
Starter Megan Brinkman retired six straight batters to open the game and held the Blue Devils scoreless through three innings. The Spires got on the board first in the top of the fourth from an RBI single by Brittnee Wimbish. However, Lawrence Tech answered in the following half inning with a two-run home run that gave them a 2-1 lead.
Saint Mary regained the lead in the sixth after an RBI single from Sadie McWilliams and an RBI triple hit by Delaney Hess put the Spires up by one run. The bullpen closed the game out for Saint Mary, holding the Blue Devils scoreless in the final two innings to get the 3-2 win. McWilliams led the Spires at the plate, going one for two with an RBI and two runs scored, while Brinkman went six innings, giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
