Spires are Bested By Ravens in 2-0 Loss

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Men's Soccer team took on Benedictine College on Wednesday night, losing 2-0. The Spires overall record is now 0-1-1.

Early in the game, Saint Mary had an opportunity to score with a corner kick by Ramiro Vasquez, which resulted in a save for the Ravens. After great defense by both teams, the Spires had another chance to get on the board with a shot by Anthony Rangel that hit the crossbar. Later in the 23rd minute, the Ravens scored and took a 1-0 lead. Both teams remained firm on the defensive side of the ball as the Spires went into halftime trailing 1-0.

Come Grieu came up big with an early save. The Spires countered quickly, but Jashil Vithal's shot failed to go in. The Ravens then extended their lead to 2-0 with 20 minutes to go in the half. Nicco Lopez's shot with 10 minutes left resulted in a save, which became the last chance for the Spires to get on the board, as the Ravens held on to win 2-0.
