Winfield, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team traveled to play Southwestern College on Wednesday, resulting in a 92-66 loss. The Spires are now 7-10 overall and 3-8 in the KCAC.
The Spires got out to a flying start, leading the Moundbuilders 9-3. An energetic defensive performance from the Spires restricted the Southwestern offense from scoring. As play continued, both teams battled throughout the first half. The Moundbuilders went on a 16-4 scoring run to build a 47-37 lead going into the end of the half. Bryce Johnson and Joey Schultz led offensive production with ten and nine points heading into the break, respectively.
After the break, Demarious Houston attempted to rally the Spires with an early three, but the Moundbuilders reacted well and retained the lead. Later, an 8-2 run by the Spires eventually cut into the Southwestern lead to nine points. Saint Mary could not make up the deficit, as Southwestern maintained a double-digit lead to the end, and the Spires fell 92-66.
