Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Spires Beat Tabor 77-59 For Second Straight Home Win

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team hosted the Tabor Blue Jays on Saturday, resulting in a 77-59 win. The Spires are now 8-10 overall and 4-8 in the KCAC.

Tre Alexander and Bryce Johnson got Saint Mary going with layups to establish an early lead. After the Blue Jays came within one of the lead, the Spires went on a 10-0 run, making it a 19-8 game. Demarius Houston helped maintain the comfortable USM lead by hitting a three and a layup with six minutes left in the half. A few late buckets from Tabor made it a seven-point 35-27 game headed into halftime.

After the break, Alexander took over the game for Saint Mary and took all the momentum with two dunks and a three. Houston added on with a three of his own to give the Spires a ten-point lead. Saint Mary continued to tack onto their lead and pressed offensively throughout the second half. Quentin Williams hit a three to stop a mounting Blue Jay comeback and maintain the double-digit 69-55 USM lead. A few more shots in the finale four minutes of the game gave Saint Mary their second consecutive home win by a score of 77-59.

Deshaud St. Martin led the Spires with 20 points off the bench and eight rebounds. Alexander, Houston, and Johnson all finished with double-digit point figures.
