Spire Volleyball Elevates to 5-2 in KCAC Play

Spire volleyball emerged victorious this evening against the York University Panthers at Ryan Sports Center with a final score of 3-1.

The match began slow for the Spires with a challenging first set where the Spires fell behind, losing 19-25. However, after a quick regrouping, USM rebounded strongly in the subsequent sets. USM dominated the second set with a score of 25-17 and continued their momentum by winning the third set 25-12. In a nail bitter of a fourth set, the Spires finally clinched the victory with a 25-22 win.

Key players consist of a few athletes you've heard of before, with Chloe Byrd leading the team with 18 kills, followed by Saige Hadley with 12, and MJ Stephens adding 9. The defensive game was equally strong, with Emma Murphy blocking 3 attempts, MJ Stephens blocking 2, and Saige Hadley contributing 1 block. In the back court, Gabby Kurle showcased her defensive skills with an impressive 43 digs, alongside teammate Ava Bojanski who secured 15 digs. The serving was yet again effective with MJ Stephens scoring 2 aces, and Addison Baker and Morgan Herrera each adding one ace to the tally.

In terms of assists, Herrera provided an impressive 34 assists, demonstrating her pivotal role in the team's offensive setups, while Addison Baker contributed 18 assists, further highlighting the depth of the Spires' game play.

The Spires will hit the road, though not too far, face off against the Avila University Eagles on Wednesday, October 22th in Kansas City, Mo at 7:00 p.m. With a current record of 18-7 (5-2), the Spires are poised to continue their strong performance as they advance through the rest of regular season play.
