Topeka, Kan.—USM men's and women's bowling competed in the NAIA Invitational in Topeka, Kansas on Friday, November 14
th and Saturday, November 15
th. The two-day event showcased colleges from the NAIA conference, with the USM presenting strong individual performances and an intense competitive spirit.
On the first day, the Spires women's team secured the 13th place with an overall score of 4025. The men's team, similarly competitive, ended the day in 16th place, totaling a score of 4471. By the end of the second day, both teams experienced slight changes in their standings. The men dropped to 17th place with a score of 4320, while the women's team slightly fell to 16th place with a score of 4044.
In the men's division, junior
Kalym Henry was a standout performer, placing the highest for USM by securing 24th place among 67 bowlers. His consistent play resulted in a total of 1000 points over 5 games, averaging exactly 200. Not far behind, freshman
Alex Prescott and senior Dantoine Ballard finished in 43rd and 44th place, scoring 869 and 851 points respectively, showcasing their competitive spirit for the weekend.
For the women's division,
Jordan Reynolds led the USM team with a 34th place finish out of 72 bowlers, scoring 878 points which translated into a 175.6 tournament average.
Emma Gorton and
Leanna Larson also made notable contributions, placing 41
st (854 points) and 55
th (788 points), respectively, demonstrating the depth and potential within the women's squad.
Looking ahead, the Spires have a quick turnaround with a match at the McKendree Match Play in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Both men's and women's teams will compete on Friday, November 21
st and Saturday the 22
nd, aiming to build upon their momentum and achievements from the NAIA Invitational.
