Bowling Battles at NAIA West Open; Reynolds Earns Spot on All-Tournament Team

Lawrence, Kan.—Spire bowling competed in the NAIA West Open this Saturday and Sunday in Lawrence, Kansas. The men finished in 11th place overall with the women finishing in 12th in the two-day tournament.

Individually, Jordan Reynolds impressively finished 3rd overall on Saturday, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament team.

On Saturday through five games, Reynolds lead her squad bowling 203, 174, 257, 189, and 204 through each game giving her a final total of 1027 and a tournament average of 205.4.
Leanna Larson was close behind at 881 (Game 1: 203, Game 2: 187, Game 3: 173, Game 4: 158, Game 5: 160) giving her a tournament average of 176.2 on day one.

Emma Gorton and Brooklyn Smith finished close, throwing a total of 809 and 745, respectively. This earns Gorton a 161.8 tournament average and Smith an average of 149.  
Kirstin Ussery rounded out the Spires with a final finish of 660 overall throwing 146, 113, 112, 136, and 153 through five games. This finish earns Ussery a tournament average of 132.

On the men's side, USM's Alex Prescott lead the team with a total of 1057 through the first five games with Prescott and Zaylen Dear averaging over 200 through day one. Prescott's standout score earned him a tournament average of 211.4. Dear was in close competition to his Spire teammate, throwing a total of 1032 through five, earning him an average of 206.4.

Kalym Henry finished strong, with a final total of 910 through five, averaging out to an even 182. Teammate Dantoine Ballard finished neck and neck with Henry, finishing 9 points behind at a total of 901 on the first day of action. This brings Ballard's tournament average to 180.2 in Lawrence.

USM bowlers Emilio Gutierrez and Erik Brim rounded out the Spire squad finishing at 499 and 334, respectively. Gutierrez finished with a tournament average of 166.3 through three games played with Brim tallying an average of 167 through two games.

As the season begins to wind down, the squad is focused on preparing for a crucial weekend at the KCAC Conference tournament set for Saturday, February 21st in Topeka, Kansas.
