Saint Mary Women's Soccer Secure a Weekend Road Win

The University of Saint Mary Spires women's soccer secured a decisive 3-0 victory over the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans in a regular season match up held at Blackwell Field in Hannibal, Missouri. This win marked an essential first victory of the season for the Spire women.

The match's momentum was set early on, with the Spires taking a 1-0 lead by halftime, thanks to a goal from senior forward Rebecca Lord. The Spires maintained their lead through disciplined play and strategic execution on the field, an effort rooted in strong defensive and offensive coordination.

The second half saw the Spires extending their lead further, with two additional goals from sophomore Nieves Vazquez and senior teammate Jaidyn Cavalieri. Rebecca Lord not only scored the game-winning goal but also contributed an assist, showcasing her pivotal role in the match. Senior midfielder Natalie Flores provided substantial support with two assists, enhancing the team's offensive dynamics.

Goalkeeping duties were split between junior Angelica Quintana-Aficial in the first half and fellow junior teammate Avah Casarez in the second, both of whom ensured a clean sheet against the Trojans. The defensive skill complemented the team's attacking efforts admirably.

With this solid win, the Spires prepare to face the Stephens College Stars on Wednesday September 3 at home in Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.
