Spire women's soccer hosted the Ottawa Braves in a competitive match at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium ultimately claiming a 2-1 victory to begin conference play in the win column.
The first half showcased a robust defensive effort from both teams, with the Spires managing to break through the Braves' defense.
Jordan Tran scored the opening goal for Saint Mary in the 35th minute, setting the halftime score at 1-0 in favor of the Spires.
The second half witnessed more action as the Spires continued their offensive push.
Kate Erpelding doubled the lead for University of Saint Mary with a crucial strike in the 60th minute, marking the game-winning goal, assisted by
Tessa Lucas. Ottawa responded by intensifying their offense but were only able to convert one opportunity into a goal, concluding the match at a 2-1 USM.
