USM Faces Tough Road Loss

The University of Saint Mary Spires faced off Wednesday evening against Southwestern in a KCAC soccer match at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kansas. An aggressive Moundbuilders team netted 6 goals, all in the first half, ending the night with a score of Southwestern 6, USM 2.

Despite first half struggles, the Spires showed resilience in the second half. Jude Rodwell scored a promising goal in the 49th minute, assisted by Robin Van Voorst, and Daniel Castro also managed to find the net with help from Alfie Scandle in the 62nd minute. These bursts of energy highlighted a spirited attempt to turn the match around, though it was not enough to counter Southwestern's early lead. Goalie Ethan Uhlrig faced a tough match but managed noteworthy saves throughout the evening.

The Spires will host their next game on Saturday, September 27th at Berkel Memorial Stadium as they will be the third game of the homecoming weekend triple-header facing the McPherson Bulldogs and looking to gain momentum. Your Spires currently sit at 2-4-2 and 0-2-1 in KCAC play.
