The Spire women's soccer team traveled to Winfield, Kansas on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Southwestern Moundbuilders. Despite a challenging first half where Southwestern led 1-0, the Spires made a crucial comeback in the second half, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
USM came out swinging in the second half, totaling 12 shots. The tying goal for USM was scored by the senior from Blackburn, England,
Rebecca Lord, in the 87th minute, benefiting from an assist by
Kate Erpelding. The Moundbuilders looked to take control late in the game, but forced a save from Quintana-Aficial to end the match even. The goal tending duties were split between
Avah Casarez in the first half and
Angelica Quintana-Aficial in the second, ensuring a strong defensive performance throughout the match. Saint Mary finished the match with an impressive 15 shots taken, with 8 shots on goal, compared to Southwestern's 9 shots.Â
