Spires Sweep at Home

Spire volleyball secured another conference win in a big Wednesday night match up against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. The Spires swept the match with a straight-set victory, concluding with a final score of Saint Mary 3, Southwestern 0.

The opening set was a nail-biter, with the Spires edging out a close 26-24 win. Chloe Byrd led the offensive efforts with powerful kills, supported by MJ Stephens and Saige Hadley, who made significant contributions throughout the match. The subsequent sets saw the Spires solidify their lead, with both the second and third sets ending at 25-19.

Key players such as Emma Scalise, Makenza Holly, and Ainsley Gardner contributed crucial blocks throughout the match. The backcourt defense was anchored by Gabby Kurle, Daniela Rivera-Perez, and Ava Bojanski, who collectively handled numerous digs, frustrating the Southwestern offense. Additionally, serving was a strong suit for the Spires, with Bojanski leading the score with four aces, followed by Rivera-Perez and Dakotah Garcia.

Assists were expertly distributed by Addison Baker and Morgan Herrera, who orchestrated the team's attacks with precision, totaling 15 and 21 assists respectively.

Looking ahead, USM are set to face the McPherson Bulldogs on Saturday, September 27th, at McPherson College. Your Spires are currently 12-5 on the season and a clean 2-0 in KCAC play.
