Spire volleyball secured another conference win in a big Wednesday night match up against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders. The Spires swept the match with a straight-set victory, concluding with a final score of Saint Mary 3, Southwestern 0.
The opening set was a nail-biter, with the Spires edging out a close 26-24 win.
Chloe Byrd led the offensive efforts with powerful kills, supported by
MJ Stephens and
Saige Hadley, who made significant contributions throughout the match. The subsequent sets saw the Spires solidify their lead, with both the second and third sets ending at 25-19.
Key players such as
Emma Scalise,
Makenza Holly, and
Ainsley Gardner contributed crucial blocks throughout the match. The backcourt defense was anchored by
Gabby Kurle,
Daniela Rivera-Perez, and
Ava Bojanski, who collectively handled numerous digs, frustrating the Southwestern offense. Additionally, serving was a strong suit for the Spires, with Bojanski leading the score with four aces, followed by Rivera-Perez and
