Leavenworth, Kan.—Spire men's soccer held on for a 1-1 draw against the Doane University Tigers on Wednesday night after the teams traded goals 3:32 apart early in the second half.
Aaron Jackson put USM ahead in the 57th minute before Jelicich converted a penalty kick for Doane in the 61st.
The Spires created most of the first-half opportunities, out shooting Doane 5-1 while earning three corner kicks. A header in the 34th minute forced goalkeeper Lara into a save, but neither side found the net before halftime. The home side continued pressing after the break and was rewarded at 56:45, when Jackson scored an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers answered at 60:17. Jelicich scored from the penalty spot to level the match, accounting for one of three shots by the Doane attacker. The visitors increased their pressure during the second half after managing only one shot over the opening 45 minutes.
Goalkeeper
Xavier Ezell protected the tie with a save at 76:29, one of two stops in a full 90-minute performance. Lara saved a shot on goal at 78:50, and a header went wide at 80:36 on the team's final recorded attempt.
USM finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Alfie Scandle led the team with three shots and put two on goal, while
Mario Santoro added another shot on target. Lara made three saves for Doane. The draw moved both teams to 0-2-1 on the season.
