Women's Bowling had a historical opening weekend at the Mid-States Collegiate tournament in Wichita, Kansas on October 18th and 19th.
The Spire women were led by the freshman from Bonner Springs, Kansas,
Leanna Larson, who shot 1130 through 6 games on Saturday giving her a tournament average of 188.3. Senior teammate
Jordan Reynolds followed close behind shooting 1030 through Saturday, landing her a tournament average of 171.6. Freshman and Sophomore duo
Brooklyn Smith and
Tayler Lindstrom made it a tight competition, finishing with a total of 1026 and 1023 respectively.
USM had another strong showing on Sunday, shooting 2625 through 16 Baker games, boosting their weekend total to 7840. This earned the Spires a 9th place overall finish, the highest that either team has placed at a Tier 1 tournament. Historically, the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2 tournaments lies within the point systems and level of competition. Tier 1 events ensure that the highest level of competition is well represented.
Looking ahead, USM Bowling will hit the road again on October 25th-26th to compete in the Jayhawk Collegiate tournament with the men's side bowling in Lawrence, Kan. at 10:00 a.m. and the women's side bowling in Topeka, Kan. at 9:15 a.m.
